The time is finally here for Canadians to get their shorts on, expose our see through skin to the sun and get an inaugural sunburn (aka ‘base burn’) while enjoying a beer and a burger on a patio.
Whether it’s yours, or someone else’s, one thing we love to do as soon as it stops snowing is get outside and enjoy as much of this above zero weather as possible, preferably in style. For some, this means a water feature made of old wood barrels… For others, well… It means a new season of throw pillow potential and non generic looking, actually cool conversation sets! New room to decorate! Yay!
Our top picks for patio furniture this year:
It’s a little bit retro kitsch, but this chair and table combo is a fun and colourful piece of good old fashioned bit of Canadiana that’s easy to clean and maintain. Add some lanterns and stylishly square planters and you’ve got an outdoor small space solution that will be easy to add to.
Affordable and totally not hideous (did we mention at least 50% of outdoor furniture is ugly/overpriced/looks exactly the same as all other outdoor furniture?), this outdoor sofa would look awesome in a small urban backyard, flanked by a few of these:
Or maybe a few of these?
You could even take those inside during the winter… in case they like, get cold or are allergic to snow or go really nicely with the couch.
Add a little Miami to your backyard. Put it beside some artfully placed boxwoods, or maybe a giant bucket of ice and beer? This thing has bikini badass written all over it.
Weather proof LED cubes are a creative and illuminating (see what we did there?) way of lighting up your backyard space, adding some extra seats or an easy to move side table. Would go nicely with above mentioned Miami lounger. And some gold sunglasses.
With plenty of room for colour with accent pillows, this set is, yes, similar to a lot of the faux wicker look conversation sets out there, but it’s got 2 things going for it: 1. there’s no brown/cream at all in the resin weave 2. clean modern lines. There is a reason why a lot of the outdoor furniture out there is made from durable resin: it’s durable. Does it have to be vanilla ugly? No. No it does not.
And finally, a touch of wistful beauty. The ottoman starts at $1,200. Drool.
