Craigslist Finds: Weekend of July 27, ’19 Edition (Chairs! Chairs! Chairs!)

I will be the first to admit these posts have not been coming as frequently as I’d like. With summer activities, errands, the normal adult blah blah blah, posting has become harder to get to this year for sure. But something that has also made it difficult is the picking on ye olde list of Craig have NOT been that great. So I’ve actually intended far more entries than I’ve delivered BECAUSE the stuff out there just wasn’t that great. Thankfully, at LONG LAST this weekend had a bumper crop of finds that we could sink out teeth into! Well, me mostly, Keith has been at work on a table so there will be a post coming in that soon enough!

The post says there are like 200 of these, so if you happen to be kitting out a cafe or hipster restaurant, then BOOM! If you just need dining room chairs, that’s less than $100 for 6 chairs!!! At $15 a pop, even if they aren’t all in fab condition, these are still sturdy AF, stylish chairs. And you can do whatever you want to them if the blonde wood isn’t your thing bc at that price? You’re not getting anything near this cool at Walmart.

This isn’t fantastically inexpensive, but this is still way less than you’d pay for an accent chair of comparable pedigree, and according to the accompanying blurb for this post, this is an actual original vintage piece from 1972! ” Designed by American architect Thomas Lamb for Plydesigns in 1972, this rare and unique chair still boasts the tag and company branding on the seat’s bottom. Made of molded blonde wood and black coloured leather upholstery. Its sleek design does not sacrifice comfort.”

These come around every year or so, and they truly are a Canadian classic. These are a little beat up with some scuff marks, but would be fab on a patio or front porch instead of traditional outdoor faux wicker blah, or even useful as extra sidechairs for when company comes over. Considering these are 50 years old and part of the permanent collection at the Musee de Beaux Arts… The story (cough *bragging rights*) you get to tell about the provenance of these chairs and their contribution to Canadian furniture design history is worth $100, no?

This chair just looks effing cool. It’s cool, okay? Perfect for an awkward space beside the fireplace in your living room or a landing in your house that needs something more than a houseplant, this angular low rider is just the ticket! Will also work as clothes chair in bedroom. Or tanning chair in screened in porch? I could go on…

The upholstery leaves something to be desired for sure… But the bones of this are awesome and this is a fine price to pay for an upholstery project for the summer! I would probably try to figure out a way to cover over the existing fabric because that cushion shape might be hard to replicate , but a throw could easily update if you don’t have the patience and the wood is in perfect condition. Good bones, man!!!!!

Porch. Fabulousness. Now. Best for houses with kids over the age you still think it’s a good idea to try to stick your head through elastic chair webbing? It looks black but is actually a very dark army green. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Also, have you noticed a large percentage of these chairs are at a magical $150 price point? Must be something in the acquisition air that makes this the winning number…

Normally each piece is a one picture show, but the side shot vs the front shot had to be included because you don’t get the full vibe of these chairs with just one. The upholstery is spot on Art Deco inspired, and given the living room these chairs seem to be in, they don’t exactly seem like they’ve been lovingly used as trampolines by any toddlers recently, so I’d bet they’re both in pretty good nick! A potential reupholstery project for sure, but you could even change just the backs and leave the main seats as is! Gorgeous!

A friend was complaining recently that we hadn’t posted in a while (he was right) as he and his wife are big Craigslist Finds fans who have their current MCM dining set in their house because of us… This steal of a deal reminded me of them! 4 chairs and an extendable dining table at this price and the chairs are PERFECT as is, you won’t even need to recover right away. The table alone is worth $500+, so I doubt this find will last long. This is a STEAL for the investment piece that this set is. A dining room redo in one go!

That’s it for this weekend but we promise we will be back soon with a Keith’s latest table project update!

Craigslist Finds: Week of September 17th, 2018

There was so much and not enough to choose from this weekend: people went nuts posting yesterday so it took longer than usual before we even got through everything listed just from the 15th! Here’s our faves in no particular order.

With vinyl sales continuing steadily, care of audiophiles, hipsters and musical purists, why not extend that vintage love to the piece you use to play your records, man?? Yes, there are other players you could get, for far more or less money, but if you have the space and aesthetic inclination, this piece really is the way to go.And it’s less than $500!

If we didn’t have dogs (that we let on the furniture, all the time) this would already be in our living room, legit. A gorgeous piece that is built to last in a timeless style that can fit in to a plethora of decor environments for under $1,000. DO IT.

And this coffee table would actually be totally perfect with the couch above. Can you believe it’s only $150? We like this piece because it’s already kind of dinged and messed up so even you continue to ding or mess it up, that’ll be part of the look instead of a blight on your living room scenery that you will forever notice and never forgive your cousin Dave for causing. Avoid the passive aggressive family get togethers and embrace a table that just gets better with every red wine stain it accumulates!

Cheap and cheerful, we love this for its portable size and versatile lewk. Perfect size for a condo, and perfect price for not breaking the bank!

Even though they aren’t the real thing, at two for $100, you’re still laughing. These Le Corbusier-inspired classics never go out of style, and are an excellent accent for any living room or sitting area!

Yes, we know this style isn’t for everyone. Especially if  this is giving you flashback of your mom’s 1980’s balloon drapes. BUT, that being said, you could easily mix this piece up with some glass nesting tables and a modern chandelier and be the envy of all your ‘contemporary/transitional/beige-style’ friends (zzzzz). THIS. SOFA. IS. EFFIN. FABULOUS.

But just in case the floral explosion is too much, this is a great option that afford you the chance to still go to town with the throw pillows. Perfect for a pop of colour, and at not even half the cost of what this piece would normally cost! Would actually go really well with that condo sized coffee table! New living room for less than $400. Not bad for a Sunday shop.

6 chairs AND the table for under $1,000 is an absolute STEAL. This find will not last long, and even if the upholstery isn’t to your taste, these are some of the easiest chairs out there for you to try your hand at some DIY upholstery (though we quite like the stripe/weave combo, tbh). A super find with a design pedigree like this is the reason we spend so much time looking through all this stuff for you: too good to be true exists sometimes, so get er done!

Stuff We Love: Our Faves From the Jysk Patio Sale!

We are as surprised as you are at the treasure trove of finds… There are a handful of Jysks around Toronto, however all of the above can also be delivered. There was actually a few more pieces on this here list that were already gone in the time it took to make this list — apologies for the 2 reproduction Acapulco style chairs that we could not add. They had them in blue and black for $79.99, and they were pretty suh-weet.

Given there are so few options out there for affordable and stylish patio furniture, we simply had to share. And we’d totally be buying if there was ANY room left in our backyard for furniture, but we are already at capacity for chairs with a running total right now at 7 plus a loveseat…  So just in case you needed any more impetus to get outside and enjoy the backyard, and we know it’s hot as balls, so that may indeed be more challenging these hazy lazy days of summer, this stuff will also look great at NIGHT! With a cold booze/iced tea/whatever you drink to keep sane.

Happy Long Weekend!

BFD Patio Time: Patio Furniture That Doesn’t Suck

As evidenced by recent postings on Instagram:

We are again redoing the garden… But like a totally different part of the garden? So ya, goodbye planters, hello wood platform that leads over to the BBQ area! (We used the wood from planters to build part of said area #recyclecycle)  And have no fear, the full update will be coming soon, after the new gate is done, and those patio stones get sorted as of course when we decided we wanted to get more of them we were told they are no longer being made and were part of a one off stone order the landscaping place doesn’t carry anymore. FML. Who needs some gently used patio stones? #jokingnotjoking

Now that that is underway, someone naturally got stuck in to looking at furniture.. As one does… When one is not allowed any more garden furniture. Lucky for YOU! Decor porn for me! (win/win) The List of Craig is actually rather unhelpful in this capacity as it’s pretty mch just furniture places in Woodbridge posting their wares, and not a lot of good second hand deals to be found. BUT what I did find was some affordable options that may not require a second mortgage (why the EFF is garden furniture so expensive?) AND aren’t ugly. Impossible you say? Check it!

Tofino Seating CanadianTire.ca

CANVAS Tofino Collection from CanadianTire.ca (YES, Canadian TIRE!) From $249.99

Can you believe it’s really taken this long for an affordable Wicker-Look option to be available? Like the wicker look is literally BASED ON WICKER. So like, why the gross brown all the time? This is much more fresh and modern, and you can add to it as you configure so you don’t need to blow the entire budget right away.

The table is $249 and the chairs and sectional pieces increase from there to $350. So, again, not like the cheapest, but certainly not out of the ballpark either…

2018_aspot_ct_patio_collection_kewlona-canadian-tire-e1526834499259.jpeg

Kelowna Collection by Canvas from CanadianTire.ca Starting at $150

FYI: the side table is $150, so REALLY the chairs etc start at $250, and the most expensive  piece is $450 which is the corner chair below . You don’t necessarily need the corner piece either, so again, buy in pieces and then see how you’re feeling. Unless you don’t like options, then get the whole thing and you’re still coming in at around $1,000…

glynn4piecesofasetwithcushions

Glynn 4 Piece Sofa Set with Cushions from CAD $591.99 at Wayfair.ca

Cannot believe how good looking, well reviewed and affordable this set is! Like ya the cushions are not huge, but people it on Muskoka chairs for hours on end, so that’s not a deal breaker for some people. Made of acacia wood, this is an excellent starter set and would also work on a condo balcony with some nice greenery and hanging plants… Oooooh planters!

CB2 Zola Planters

zola planters from cad $20.76 at CB2.com

We have 2 of the hanging version and they were less than $30 each. Hanging photos to come…

Have a very Happy Victoria Day Weekend!

Craigslist Finds: Labour Day 2017 Edition

Well if you can believe it, and I don’t think anyone can given the weather that we’ve had this summer and the fact that we’ve been able to not have our air conditioning on ALL WEEK in August… it’s that Back to School, Labour Day weekend time again. Which isn’t as sad as it used to be when you were a kid and had had just had 3 months off and now have to go back to actually doing things you don’t wanna do, learning and getting up on time. Not sure as an adult if we’d be able to handle the shock as well and those resilient children…Because every day is the closest you will ever be to shooting spitballs in class. Which is why you decorate your house with cool stuff instead. Allow us…

Washable covers means dogs and kids can coexist with this piped beauty. It has space enough for 3 and super easy to switch up the cushions for a Mediterranean vibe or an English country feel, whatever you’re in the mood for!

The stools with all white tile or marble. Or both.

Not bad for the real thing, especially if you can talk your kid into needing this for their desk and why this is super cool. 😉

This chair you probably can’t afford. Or maybe you can…? This would be super stylish for a child to get its head stuck in…. think of the photos!!!

Or this see through lucite beauty. Droooool.

White Bertoia style chairs. 2 for $50 and they are legit some of the most comfortable chairs we have in our house. Not that ours are exactly the same but they look pretty similar. Great for a small eat in kitchen or at a bistro table by a window. You know, in the Parisian corner of your house.

And is it possible that all you have to do is paint the wood on this couch and it’ll look cool? It’s $100, so it’s not like you’re going to be out major dollars if it doesn’t work out…

Spray paint this yellow or white. Sunnify your breakfast nook. Don’t forget to invite Blanche and Sophia.

These gorgeous MCM chairs are like less than $400 for the set. How can you NOT?

We are sure that there will be a bunch more that’s going to come through over the weekend, but why spend your time looking for the goods when it’s the last weekend of the summer and you’ve got the best right here already?? ENJOY!!!

Craigslist Finds: Canada 150 Edition

Wish it could be said that every piece featured here is fabulously Canadian and old tyme and cool, but as anyone who lives in Canada knows, a good part of our style comes from other parts of the world via all the different people who live here. So like ya we got our own Canadian stuff, but you know, stuff from other countries is cool too.  Seems like a lot of people took the opportunity of nothing being open, and it at least not raining the way everyone said it would (till 3:30 anyway) and posted a whole bunch of  stuff on the interwebs. Some seriously affordable table time, guys.

1960’s Solid Wood coffee table – $100 from Craigslist.ca

There’s no way this is worth just a $100, and if we didn’t have 5 already, we’d totally get this one for ourselves. Everyone needs 6 coffee tables right? RIGHT?

Vintage French Provincial Arm Chair – $255 from Craigslist.ca

This French Provincial chair has been completely redone, and we love, love, love the contrasting burlap on the back with the olive stripe on the front.Very deconstructed, Restoration Hardware style except each chair doesn’t cost $1,5000. This will definitely make anywhere you are adding it at least 15-17% fancier on average.

Mid Century Modern Sideboard $300 from Craigslist.ca

Another freaky find that is definitely worth at least twice what is being asked. This piece is in gorgeous condition and would be perfect for a study or den, even as a console at the front of the house for keys, flowers and junkmail. You have no idea how tortuous it is that so many people have decided to draw the line at July 1st and get rid of the things they’ve been holding on to all this time and not using. And we have to just sit and watch the show. Kind of like Escape to the Country when the couple gets distracted by the paint colour in the living room on a beautiful 16th century thatched cottage a decide not to make an offer and you’re like whyeeeeeeeeeee. But in a sideboard.

For a flatscreen low profile living room vibe? You’re not going to get anything this good from Ikea tomorrow, and this is actual real wood. Yes, if you still have CDs they will totally fit in there… but so will you collection of salt and pepper shakers from around the world. So, you’re welcome.

Obviously this blue storage locker dude is getting rid of a bunch of awesome stuff today. So combine and save even more if you can.. Seeing as they’re not offering delivery, they’d probably be pretty excited to get a few pieces off their hands in one go.  For an extra $150, vs the other piece, you’re getting 9 drawers for DVDs and CDs and Action Figures and the hideous plates your aunt gave you for ‘the holidays’ that you only cart out once a year but have to because everyone will ask where they are if you don’t and judge you. #famguilt #decorpressure #theylljudgeyouwithouttheplatestoo

This one’s short but sweet, content designed to fit in just right…. between showers.

Happy Canada Day, everyone!

Shops We Love: Simons.ca HAS FURNITURE NOW

Seriously you guys. We were just checking out the homewares sections as per usual, but then something new popped up in the menu: furniture and furnishing! Wha whaaaaaa? Don’t mind if we do. Couldn’t be better suited given how awesome their sheets and home accessories are so let’s go (and it’s free delivery right now too, so hop to it!)

It’s gold, you can easily pick it up and throw it (aka it’s lightweight, so maybe don’t get this if your kids like to throw stuff, or DO get it if they like to throw stuff and this is a good alternative to the type of damage you’re used to). And it looks and feels like paper, which is futuristic and great for a nice patina.

Toddler stool $90.00 from Simons.ca

Ok yes technically a toddler stool, for stylish toddlersBut could also be a cute footstool or side table for the non toddler contingent too. Who says kids get the to have all the stylish fun at affordable prices?

Have always loved this style of chair but until this version, I had a very hard time finding a decent reproduction of the Jacobson Drop chair that didn’t cost an arm and a leg to ship to Canada. And didn’t cost an arm and a leg period ($437 USD/chair at DWR.com). Not that I have any more room for chairs, cause we really really need to get rid of some…. So YOU buy these please. And send (taunt us with) photos.

LOVE LOVE LOVE three of these instead of one giant coffee table. Then you can move them around if you have parties so everyone has somewhere to put their drink, forget it there, and then get a new one. You could probably sit on them too, so double functionality AND they look rugged AF!

This is also a nice play on the rugged wood trend, but with an architectural vibe that is over and above the look ‘I put a bunch of wood pieces together and am calling it a table’ approach. Which we;ve totally done, btw. Cause the wood was free. This is decidedly not so free, but also no more than you would pay for similarly stylish end table at a bigger, non Canadian chain decor store. So go Canadian and support la style Quebecoise!

Vive la Simons!

BFD’s Craigslist Finds: Week of April 24th

Lots of spring cleaning means lots of finds. So many good things. Lots of project pieces this week with lower price tags which is nice, though obvs the full monty is also a nice surprise too.

Reupholstery project hello! This would be fab in a graphic black and white printed fabric, like Marimekko style…

Yes. Exactly. Paint the wood red or maybe green…

If this is light pink, this is fabulous. If this is beige… less fabulous. BUT with some kick ass colourful cushions it’s a cool chair that only costs $50. Looks very comfortable. Good for cookie eating.

That table is awesome, and hey, this is a pretty stylin set up for $200. Will be surprised if this one hangs around for very long, esp now that it’s getting warmer out and people are being all gardeny n stuff.

This is a basic dining set. But it’s also a good BASE. For a paint project. Paint it all white and add a graphic colour splash to the table, or maybe something like this with triangles…

Just get crafty with the paint tape like this design from Nine Red’s DIY blog post.

I dare say this is fabulous. It’s covered with stuff, so it’s not the best picture, but it’s $20 and it’s 80’s chic with the white and metal mix. It’s pretty obviously a good idea to buy this table.

Just get some new seat cushions for this and you’ve got a conversation corner in an awkwardly sized kitchen. You could paint this table top too!!

Get some of these and you’re golden. And velvet.

And while we are doing 80’s chic, we might as well throw this lamp into the mix. Iconic but totally would work as a bedside table or at a mirrored desk where you make very important 1980’s decisions on your swatch phone.

You can have one now. And call waiting. All for yourself.

Couch Surfing on a Sunday

Just when you think winter has given us the go ahead…. Surprise! You started to believe, didn’t you?!?! Just like a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, the minute you start to say, ‘Well maybe this year..’ you’re done for. It’s not spring yet, you fool! SIT DOWN! On a couch. With some tea and Netflix. We got another week of this at least. In case you forgot: it’s Canada. Hooray? Well at least we have the internet, and couches. As in new couches, cause why not?

HOWE SOFA $1,260.00 from ElteMarket.com

A Iittle more on the expensive side for sure, but the “lower” expensive side… Just a little of the on trend brass leg, but it’s delicate and smoky all at the same time. Like the couch equivalent of a London Fog tea in a yummy mug.

But while we are fantasizing… What about a little of this?!?!? It’s like quilted marshmallow.

GUS* MODERN AUBREY SOFA $2,450.00 – $2,658.25 (CAD) from ModernKaribou.com

And this is a cotton candy dream smoothie. Velvet and everything.

GRAMERCY 3-seater sofa $499 from structube.com

And then I saw this and was like sorry, how much? Great for a little sunshine-y book nook!!

CIRRUS sofa $1099 from article.com

And for a velvet sofa that is as glam as it is fresh front lawn? Not a bad price. You can’t go much lower than this in price point with design like that.

COOL 3-seater sofa $499 from Structube.com

And one more from Structube for good measure, this one is also super ‘cool’. Love the piping, and that price, obvs. A bit difficult these days to find sofas not from the usual suspects to be honest we need more online selection in Canada!

Last but definitely not least, this was our fave from Ikea’s new PS 2017 collection which hit stores in February. Washable covers, and a light and airy design with substantial cushions, you could have this as part of your backyard lounge scene or in your living room, and it would be perfectly at home in either setting.

Happy Surfing Afternoon!

Craigslist Finds: Family Day 2017 Edition

Holy crap peeps, it’s a bumper crop this week. A plethora of possibility! Seems like the gorgeous weather over the past 3 days has been impetus enough for people to open up their garages and attics and get photographing to clear out all of those treasures you didn’t know you needed yet! Don’t worry, we’re on it.

A good price for the pair and easily coordinates with any decor style, if you’re looking for some extra living room seating but can’t really really commit, these are a great transitional option, that would be awesome with some graphic throw pillows for extra zuuusje. (from the verb zuuusjing, as in this plain white bathroom sure could use some zuuusjing up! Alternative recos for spelling welcome)

Knowing how redonkulously expensive RH is normally, this is a pretty sweet steal of a deal for a home office, and you know this thing is going to last through whatever wear and tear you can throw at is based on the fact that it’s built like a metal (brick) sh&*house. A little on the pricey side in terms of the type of things we normally feature, but this is a good opp to get a high quality, sturdy piece of furniture for a fraction of its normal price.

LOVE LAMP. MAKE BUYING OF LAMP. This lamp urgently needs to be a part of your home because it is so unbelievably badass and would be perfect in you living room, on a bedside table or in a reading nook. Your other furniture will be jealous, but don’t worry, they’ll get over it in time… as long as the lamp invites everyone to play on its spaceship every once in a while.

Nice for some dips n nibbles when entertaining. Love the 70’s vintage vibe and these would go well with a plain white china set as a colourful accent.

Something about this plate is just crying out for you to paint or decoupage a dinosaur into the scenery. Add a little joie de vivre to make this seemingly non-descript plate on the wall a bit more fun for those who take the extra minute to find your cheeky artistic surprise! Tee hee.

These are a few years old but still a favourite style of ours from the more style-infused pieces that Ikea has come out with over the past 5 years. At this price for two, these are also a great option for CRAFTING!!!  Try out repainting, sticking an accent piece of wallpaper on the doors or maybe even a marble faux finish. Bonus: They also look stylish the way the are, and those little ceramic pulls are still totally adorbs without going shabby chic overload (vom).

Not sure how this is still available, but the price for just the chairs alone is a steal, so get on this one before it’s gone! Pretty sure it’s only a matter of days if not hours. Can you say re upholstery dream project?!?!

Kitchen island or console table say whaaaaa? Portable and able to match pretty much any decor style, this is a practical work/eating/drinking addition to any kitchen/dining area, and a minimalist modern alternative to a chunky console table behind the couch or in a naked hallway that isn’t too obtrusive. Plus, hello? It’s $75.

Yeah, we don’t know how this is still available either at the price. We have something very similar at the bottom of our king sized bed and this is a great way to do the t shirts/socks and underwear thing without having the furniture in your bedroom obtrusively take over your space (cause it’s sort of like it’s part of the bed). Love love love those recessed handles. Faboosh!

Happy Family Day bargain hunting!
