DIY Weekend Project: Stumpy the Side Table

He was alerted to a big old pile of wood when he saw people stopped by the side of the road picking through it for firewood. It came home in the back of the car. As promised, behold the step by step instructions for our new outdoor side table, made from cast off wood that Keith found near the family cottage. Keith named it Stumpy.

1. This is the stump. The tape is so we can tape some lines into it and then paint a design with Behr’s Quartz Pink

I wanted two stripes, but didn’t initially want to paint the bark around it

Keith marked the edges of where the stripes were

This is what it looked like… We thought it was a bit womp, womp

So we painted around the bark, and got rid of the stripes. Well, Keith did. He sanded them off. I supervised.

The legs are from Home Depot, they even come with their own attachment.

Had to shorten them, a bit too tall initially for the side tables drink to arm reach ratio.

This is the finished product! HOORAY!

This is the Behr paint we used at HomeDepot.com  This is the legs we bought. Make sure you pay attention to whether you are getting the straight or angled. Not that anyone we know has ever made that mistake.

All in? This cost $30 at Home Depot (but we did have some leftover varnish in the back that we put on the wood top). And it took 3 hours!
